12.10.2017
In October 2017, an updated workshop for the production of dry whey at the production area of Polesie of OJSC “Milkavita” in Khoiniki started its work. The technical re-equipment was carried out thanks to the green initiative of the Association of European Business “Pilot Project of Comprehensive Treatment of Waste from Dairy Enterprises” in the framework of the project “Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus”, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP.
The project is focused on Gomel region. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food for 2016, it is Gomel region where the percentage of curd whey directed for processing is the least (with the exception of Minsk region) and is 78.3% of the total volume of curd whey. At the same time, Brest and Grodno regions are leading in processing of all kinds of whey.
The AEB partner in Gomel region is OJSC “Milkavita”. As a result of re-equipment of the workshop for the production of curd whey, the volume of its processing will increase to 110 tons per day (additional withdrawal of 50 tons of curd whey from the turnover). Earlier this was impossible due to insufficient technological base. The AEB purchased the necessary part of the equipment at the expense of international technical assistance allocated under the project “Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy in the Republic of Belarus”, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP.
As a result of the pilot project, the production of the import-substituting product “Whey-fat mixture with a mass fraction of fat of 30-40%”, analogous to the products popular in livestock production in Spain and France, was established. It will be used as the main component for the replacement of whole milk in the production of feed for farm animals. With the cost of imported components from 2000 rubles up to 2600 rubles for 1 ton, the savings on import will be 300-390 thousand rubles per month.
It is important to note that the “Pilot Project of Comprehensive Treatment of Waste from Dairy Enterprises” not only complies fully with all the principles of the green economy, but also managed to prove itself in accomplishing the three most important tasks: economic, environmental and social.
The economic goal is achieved by processing of whey by more convenient and correct redistribution of the waste that could potentially be paid for disposal.
The environmental effect is to provide opportunities for 100% treatment of dangerous curd whey. The social one is connected with creating new jobs. In addition, during the project, the competence of engineers and technologists of dairy enterprises was increased throughout the country, the importance of compliance with the laws of production was noted.
Maryna Barouka, Deputy Chairwoman of the Association of European Business and Manager of the initiative “Pilot Project of Comprehensive Treatment of Waste from Dairy Enterprises”, notes: “The pilot project of the Association, using the example of a single production, shows how the rational use of side elements of dairy processing (adversely affecting the environment with improper disposal) contributes to the development of a green economy in our country”.
